loved, Loved, LOVED this book!! I have zero complaints. I loved all the characters, especially the main characters of Mila and George. The slow burn was agonizingly perfect. There was one specific time I got baited good and I honestly put the book down and cursed because of it. lolI love Mila's ballsy attitude from the start. She is very blunt and truthful whether someone wants to hear it or not. The first staff meeting where she was there was intense and I so would have loved to be there in that room to feel that energy and tension she invoked. I love her because she doesn't sugar coat things. People are so trained to be "yes men or women" in society a lot of times that their loss of original thought and questioning leads to stupidity, in my opinion. Mindless robots. And then for the governor to actually take Mila's suggestion was awesome and made everyone speechless. Perfection.Another thing I loved was Mila's astute awareness of George's even slightest facial expression and body language. As an observer type person I can truly appreciate that.Dunk tank scene, easily one of my top favorite early on scenes. Mila's reaction had me grinning and my heart fluttering.Daaaamn the gym scene... one of many. Mila knows her stuff. I thought George's head would violently explode. She holds back no punches. I think Mila completely upends her with how blatant she can be but just as fast turn to a softness that keeps the governor off balance.Their flirting in the kitchen the one night did things to me. It is always the little things like that in books that get me most. The melting of an ice queen. That moment when despite herself, she lets her guard down simply wanting to give in but doesn't. Testing of the waters, wondering if she over played her hand.Those gym sessions stared started heating up and giving me hotflashes and I wasn't the one working out. And what Mila showed George... "THAT's what they pay me for"... well it made me wish I lived in a colder climate because holy hotness. Gold star for that one. Goode lawd.Their tension grew more and more palpable with each step of the way.Gaaah you. Raaah! That moment in the library at New Year's Eve party... that's all I'm gonna say but I need a word with the author. Gaah!The panic room though **smirk**It's pretty much all I can give without spoilers. lol Just know... those were some of my favorite parts when you read them. hahaLate night declaration in the library. Pretty sure if I was in that room at that moment I wouldn't be able to breathe as I was holding my breath just reading it.The confession of George melted me completely. My heart.What can you take from this book, besides an amazing read? The idea that... You can't live your life on someone else's expectations.Definitely adding to my favorites collection. I am not too keen on politics lately but this one created a new feeling for me. It reminded me (although it's fiction) that there were still some "good" politicians out there. George was kind of living a lie about her relationship but it was done with the best intentions. She was honest about what she wanted to do for the state and what she wanted for it's citizens. It took her a while to realize that she could have everything if she was totally honest. Mila came along at the right time. Yes, this is a mild enemies to lovers book but it is so worth reading. I loved both of these women. Honestly, I would really like to read a continuation of their lives. Highly recommend this one and thanks to the author for providing a well thought out book with a really good story.
